Happy Book Birthday to Heating the Outdoors by Marie-Andrée Gill, translated by Kristen Renee Miller

Today marks the first release from our Spring 2023 season! Introducing Heating the Outdoors—an irreverent and transcendent new poetry collection by Ilnu Nation member Marie-Andrée Gill, translated from French by Kristen Renee Miller.

Happy Book Birthday to Heating the Outdoors by Marie-Andrée Gill, translated by Kristen Renee Miller! We are overjoyed to be putting out a second poetry collection by this extraordinary writer-translator duo, which builds on themes of coming of age and colonial impact, previously explored in Spawn.

CBC Books ‘Most-Anticipated’ poetry title, Heating the Outdoors is garnering lots of love from early readers. Publishers Weekly writes, “Miller’s translation skillfully delivers the energy and pacing of Gill’s ruminative poems . . . These pages full of irreverent musings deliver affecting details and candor.” The Cyrus Piece calls Heating the Outdoors, “a powerful, refreshingly honest ode to womanhood, love, loss, and introspection.” This must-read post-breakup contemplation romances language and landscape in the aftermath of a love affair.

“A  luminous, resilient read that finds resonance in our little hidden wounds.”
—Rose Carine Henriquez, Le Devoir
