Welcome to May! Welcome to Short Story Month!
It has been said that the short story is the quintessential Canadian form — from Nobel Prize-winning Alice Munro to other amazing writers like Matt Cohen or Norman Levine who were also masters of the form, the short story has been a major player through the history of CanLit, both at home and on the world stage. And despite the marketplace’s odd stance on the short story, which seems to insist they don’t sell, it continues to thrive.
Here at Book*hug Press, we love short stories. In fact, we’re something akin to short story junkies. We love the form for its flexibility and its innovative prowess. Over the years we have published great collections by stellar authors from Canada and abroad, including Jess Taylor’s Lambda Literary Award-nominated, Just Pervs, the critically acclaimed debut by Derek Mascarenhas, Coconut Dreams, and most recently, The Handsome Man by Brad Casey.
To celebrate Short Story Month, we’re offering 25% off any story collection until May 31. For more information, visit this nifty landing page we created to kick off this special time.
On the blog, we’ll be sharing videos and audio recordings of our authors reading excerpts from their published story collections. Stay tuned for readings and story excerpts from Jess Taylor, Emily Anglin, Brad Casey, Stephen Thomas, and more. Follow us as well on Facebook and Twitter and Instagram.
