“Feminism” might have been Merriam-Webster’s word of the year, but who is really entitled to be a part of the #squad? White feminism is defined by its constricting definition of what women and liberation look like for all women, and its ignorance to intersections of marginalization—anything that isn’t sexism—such as racism, transphobia, homophobia, classism, ableism, and discrimination against sex workers. Moderator Ijeoma Oluo is joined by four authors of different genres, Chelene Knight, Gwen Benaway, Jillian Christmas, and Silvia Moreno-Garcia, to discuss why feminism isn’t all girl power!, and how a colourblind and exclusionary “feminism” only further erases the voices of women who experience multiple intersections of oppression.
