Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia presents Staring a Story, a Writing Workshop with Oisin Curran, author of Blood Fable.

Some readers start at the end and read backwards. This workshop isn’t for them. We’re going to assume that a reader and a story meet at the opening word. So much depends on that first phrase, sentence, paragraph, page. Many great writers have agonized over their openings to seduce their readers into reading on. How have they done it? We’ll examine an array of first pages and see what we can steal to make our own better.
