We’re back with the seventh feature in our National Poetry Month Poet Spotlight series. Next up is Shannon Webb-Campbell!
We have had the pleasure of publishing two previous collections by Shannon including I am a Body of Land and Lunar Tides. This year we are honoured to be publishing her latest collection of poems Re: Wild Her! In nature, rewilding restores biodiversity and ecosystems. In this new collection from award-winning poet Shannon Webb-Campbell, it is a form of Indigenous resurgence and pleasure.
Without further ado, please enjoy “Stardust Woman” from Re: Wild Her, which is now available for purchase! Please follow along for more National Poetry Month Poet Spotlights all month long.
STARDUST WOMAN
when you roll with a stardust woman
Scorpion to the bone, you’ll see comets throw
blazes across the blackest of night
a femme made of cooling gases from stars
who steals Veuve Clicquot from a capricious lover
pours you a flute, wearing metallic sequins
you drink dust grains blowing across space
she’s no violent supernova, but you know
her ex-lover will be destroyed again
through decay she gifts
a packet of seedlings to plant after the thaw
muses about her grandmother who waltzed
down the aisle carrying a sprig of sweet peas
