Vancouver Writers Fest presents Lee Maracle

October 23, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:15 pm

Vancouver Writers Fest presents Lee Maracle: A Life’s Work.

“A walking history book,” one of the most prolific Indigenous authors in Canada, recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and an Officer of the Order of Canada, mentor, teacher and Stó:lo— mythmaker/storyteller: Lee Maracle’s work in art and activism places her amongst the most influential—and beloved—writers in Canada today. Since her first work published in 1975, Maracle has urged Canada to accept responsibility for the theft of land from Indigenous inhabitants, especially highlighting the challenges faced by Indigenous women across the country. In an intimate conversation, we hear from the Elder about her life’s work, her vision for true reconciliation, and the joys of writing with her two daughters for their latest work, Hope Matters. Maracle is proof of it. Moderator: Jaye Simpson

Presented in partnership with Vancity.

Tickets: $26.00
Youth under 30: $15.00
